Dániel Somogyi-Tóth (b. 1981) conductor, organist, chief music director of the city Debrecen graduated from the Béla Bartók Conservatory majoring in piano and composer. In 2006, he graduated in conducting and organ at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music. After finishing the Academy, he was the artistic director and conductor of the Békés County Symphony Orchestra between 2007 and 2011. For his effective and successful work with the Orchestra, he was awarded the Prima Prize in 2008, and he received the title of honorary citizen of the city of Dévaványa in Békés County.
From 2009 to 2019 he was the permanent guest conductor of the Operetta Theatre in Budapest, where his name is associated with such defining productions as La Bayadère and Mario and the Magician. In 2010–2011 he also worked as an opera conductor of the National Theatre of Pécs. Since 2011, he has been the director and artistic director of the Kodály Philharmonic in Debrcen, since April 2012, the music director of the Csokonai National Theatre, the president of the Debrecen Music Council and the chief music director of the city Debrecen. As the first person in the musical life of Debrecen, he received the Critics’ Award in 2012 and based on the decision of the Kodály Philharmonic’s artistic council, he was given the Rubányi Award in 2023.
He is regular concert organist, soloist of the Hungarian Philharmonic. He has performed as a conductor or soloist at venues like Beijing, Munich, Bari, and Tel Aviv. He is the co-founder of the Zoltán Kodály International Music Competition, a member of the College of Music of the National Cultural Fund and a member of the board of the Association of Hungarian Symphony Orchestra. Since 2023, he has been a guest conductor at the Hungarian State Opera.
